Most wonderful site. I have been searching through these dusty electronic archives for quite some time, and it's good to find some concise information at last...with photos, too! I am an Ohio Spooner, and trace my line back to Plymouth Colony.

Russ: And to all other Spooners out there who are reading. My new e-mail address is cocoab@cox.net just in case you or anybody else wanted to know. My Nanna (Angeline Ward Spooner) and Russ's Grandfather Howard Spooner were brother and sister. Update: our cousin Charles Goff from Alaska is down to visit his immediate family in Rhode Island according to my sister Kathy Augaitis. Charles's mother Alice along with my mother Betty were both daughters of Angeline Ward Spooner.

Brilliant site. I'm from Newcastle, Geordieland, UK. In my area there are not many spooners - only myself, my wife Carol, son Jason, daughter Lucy, my mother June my dad Norman, who passed away 5 years ago, his brother Sid and son Raymond, wife Ann and daughter Lucy. Also I have a brother who has lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia for 31 years. Your site is unbelievable. I did not think there were so many Spooners here in the world. Keep the good work up.

Thanks for all the work you have done on this site...I don't know much about my family. I am the great-grandaughter of Charles Edward and Lillian Spooner, the grandaughter of Charles Edward Jr. and Dorothy Burke-Spooner, and the daughter of Lillian Dianne Spooner. I am also the great niece of Frances Spooner and Berle Spooner. All I really know is that my family spent some time in Alabama, Massachusetts and Wisconsin. My Grandfather moved to Bushnell, FL around sometime in the 70's. My mom now resides in Dade City, FL and I am in Plant City, FL. Do any other Spooners out there tend to have large ears?! That's how we can recognize the Spooners in our family!!!

Wonderful site! Thank-you, Russ. Hello to all the Spooners of the world. Like a few others who have signed the guestbook, I am part of the Spooners who reside in SW Georgia, and am probably related to those who live in Florida, as well. Many of the Spooners in SW Georgia are farmers (cotton, peanuts, cattle), and there also are a number of professionals and business owners. Some of the photos of Russ bear a striking resemblance to my father, Victor Zabdiel Spooner, Jr. (The eyes, nose, forehead, and full head of hair are my dad's!) In temperment, I, myself, seem to have much in common with Russ, too. I have my own "wall of books", am driven to write, spend endless hours hacking away at the keyboard, read like a fiend, write a newspaper column, and enjoy working in my vegetable garden. I would appreciate any information anyone might have about my branch down in Georgia, and how we might be related to those in Massachusetts and elsewhere. Victor Spooner Lilburn, Georgia

Russ: Great site, wonderful job! I'm Kathy Augaitis's brother. My mom was Betty Brennan Downes and Nanna was Angeline Spooner. Looks like you're the same age as me (1952). I remember your grandfather Howard and Aunt Edie as well as Uncle Chet and Aunt Stella. Used to visit them when I was "quite young." There were plenty of stories told back then. I loved listening to them. I remember going out on your Grandad's boat once. Did'nt he work for Bell and Howell? Call me some time at 401-732-7886. Maybe we can meet some day. It would be kind of neet. Mike.

I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting your information! I have just found our missing link, and I'm not even a Spooner! I figured my cause was just about lost. I've been looking for the 10th of our Smith family children for years now. All we knew was that he had gone to North Dakota (in Benson County somewhere- and I did find him there...) and died in Canada. With a name like Charles Smith? Yeah...a needle in a haystack of the entire country of Canada. But here he was! On your Darling/Sears/Lund story for the Steel, North Dakota Diamond Jubilee!! I'm so excited I can barely speak! The funny thing is he ended up in Burdett, Alberta, and my husband is from Alberta. We go back all the time, and actually have a trip booked in October. I can't wait to go and see if the hotel Uncle Charley built might still exist-- or if I can find some cousins nearby. I'm so thrilled. Thank you again! For everything!

Back in Nov. of 2001 I wrote and asked what the connection of Ann G. Spooner could have been to the Sheldon P. Hicok family in 1850 census...She was living in the Hicok household. Now I find that S.P.Hikock was living in the Edgar Spooner household when the 1870 Austin Township, Mower Co., Minnesota census. I am still trying to figure out the connection!

Hi, I am descended from the Georgia Spooners. My great grandmother was Chloe Alma Spooner Trawick (Iron City, GA). The work here is very impressive and if anyone wants any information on the Georgia Spooners, I can give what I have. I've finally been able to find not only the two missing generations between William & Mercy Spooner m. in 1713 and Mercy (or Marcy) Spooner b. in 1778, but also Mercy's husband Michael Reynolds. I think Wm and Mercy are 8 Gs back. Does anyone know any stories about the Spooners of the 1700s and 1800s? All I know is that Micah (b. 1754) was a Minuteman. Thanx!!

This is so exciting! I have just begun my foray into geneology on the internet - I have stories and a family tree from my Grandmother. Her mother was Alice Ann Spooner, who was the daughter of Charles Edward Spooner, who was the son of Samuel Spooner and Margaret Shutter (listed on your site). I am fairly sure that this is a match, as the family is from Albany, NY and the children of Samuel Spooner and Margaret Shutter (that I know of through my Grandmother) have the same names as listed in your data base. I will need to spend some time in Albany to make sure, but I thought that you would like to know. Are you interested in names without firm dates? I would be happy to share what my Grandmother has told me.

Hello all, my father Richard John Spooner and his father William Spooner (d, in Mississipi, year?) from there I do not know. I have heard that the Spooner's were Scottish, and I have also heard from my father that we are descendants of King Ferdenand of Spain? Great sight! Thanks

Nice work, Russ. But when are you going to put the Iowa Spooners on the list of members? Waiting for Margo to send it to you? (She's my sister so I'm giving her a hard time.) Recently I found another Denise Spooner--a Spooner by marriage. I, on the other hand, am a Spooner by birth. Signing off with greetings to all the Spooners out there--what a name! What a family!!

I have been searching the Wisconsin census and in Brooklyn, Green Co., 1850 I found my Hicok connection but in the household, there is Ann G. Spooner age 10 and born in Vermont. Sheldon Hicok was born in Vermont but was in Ohio prior to moving to Wisconsin. I don't know why Ann G. Spooner is in this household. Can you shed any light on this? M. Rowert

My grandmother was Mary Ann Spooner; my great-grandmother was Maria Spooner, (d. Nov. 1939, Wilnecote, England); great-grandfather was Laurence Hall Spooner (d. Dec. 1930, Wilnecote). Mary Ann married John Brown Clarke (b. Dec. 1880). Mary & John emigrated to Whitby, Ont. Canada about 1908. Had 9 children. Searching for more info, descendants.

I've been thinking of joining the New England Soc here in Boston to find out more of my family name. I've traced back to my great grandfather from relatives. Nice site.
