Virgil D. Parris was a prominent lawyer. He was always a Democrat, and one of the leading politicians of Maine. At the breaking out of the Civil War in 1861, he was Naval storekeeper at Portsmouth, N. H., and took a decided stand against the war. His speeches were such as to injure him in the Democratic ranks, and they could not support him as a party leader. He was one of the promoters of the Buckfield Branch R. R., since extended to Rumford Falls; was a member of Congress. In 1852 was appointed U. S. Mail Agent of the New England states. He d. in Paris, Me., June 13, 1874.

Frank, resolute, bold, of firm convictions and honest purpose, through a long and active public life he held his course, upright and unfaltering to the end.

RUTH PARRIS6, (Benjamin5, Thomas4, Thomas3, John2, Thomas1) b. Dec. 12, 1762, dau. of Benjamin and Melicent (Keith) Parris; m. Mark Andrews of Taunton, Mass., b. July 16, 1760, and moved to Turner, Me. He was a merchant; also Major in Rev. War. In advanced life he moved to Perry, N. Y., where several of his children were living. He d. there May 16, 1848, age 88. His wife d. April 18, 1847, age 85.

MARK ANDREWS7, (Ruth6, Benjamin5, Thomas4, Thomas3, John2, Thomas1) b. Nov. 13, 1786, son of Mark and Ruth (Parris) Andrews; m. Dolly McIntire of Biddeford, Me. He d. in Perry, N. Y., May 19, 1856, age 70.
